van Abbe

Located in the gardens behind Eindhoven’s van Abbe Huis, the Pavilion is a temporary wooden structure functioning as both an art studio and an exhibition space. Inspired by the nearby river Dommel, the design focuses on spatial continuity and the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments. Visitors enter a completely open floor plan that removes traditional room divisions, encouraging a natural flow between the artist’s workspace and the public gallery. To emphasize this openness, the pavilion features sharp horizontal lines and is designed to look as if it is hovering above the ground. An extensive glass facade fills the interior with natural light and frames views of the surrounding garden, while the primary use of timber introduces warmth and natural texture to balance the transparent design.
