POACC

Port of Antwerp Coordination Center

Situated in the Port of Antwerp, the new coordination center rebrands the port as a journey which brings together diverse user groups (POACC Workers, POACC Education, and Visitors) in one coherent, unified, and open design. By extending the water taxi to the island and inviting visitors into the building the ensemble creates an immersive journey experience, through port and building. A central double entrance immediately invites interaction across the shared spaces. Visitors gain a glimpse behind the scenes, discovering the port’s digital advancements before embarking on a museum journey through the building with exhibition spaces scattered throughout. Employees, port workers, and students have access to co-working, meeting, and social spaces distributed throughout the volume. At the crown, an open cafeteria with greenhouses offers panoramic views of the island, its locks, and the port itself. Beyond unifying its users, the coordination center integrates a forward-thinking climate concept (re-utilising the heat from the data center and passive heating and cooling strategies through the central greenhouse structure), reflecting the port’s ethos of environmental growth.
